The contract includes city and intercity buses from the MAN Lion’s City, MAN Lion’s City E and MAN Lion’s Intercity LE model families. A significant share of the vehicles to be delivered under the agreement will be fully electric, underlining Deutsche Bahn’s commitment to sustainable mobility and marking a major milestone for electromobility in Germany’s local public transport sector.

The buses will be operated by DB Regio AG, Deutsche Bahn’s regional passenger transport subsidiary, across Germany.

Long-Standing Partnership

MAN Truck & Bus and Deutsche Bahn have been working together since 2010. During this period, nearly 5,000 MAN buses have already been delivered to Deutsche Bahn. The new framework agreement further strengthens this long-term partnership.

Wide Range of Drivetrain Options

The agreement includes battery-electric MAN Lion’s City city buses, available in 10-, 12- and 18-metre versions, as well as MAN Lion’s Intercity LE vehicles in three different lengths. In addition to electric models, Deutsche Bahn can also choose from a broad portfolio of low-floor buses with conventional diesel or CNG drivetrains, including vehicles equipped with MAN EfficientHybrid technology.

“A Historic Contract”

Commenting on the agreement, Alexander Vlaskamp, CEO of MAN Truck & Bus, said:

“The new framework agreement with Deutsche Bahn is a historic bus contract and an outstanding vote of confidence in our products and our team.”

Harmen van Zijderveld, Member of the DB Management Board for Regional Transport, added:

“Long-term contracts ensure that we always have modern vehicles and can continue to develop them in close cooperation with manufacturers. The fact that the vast majority of the buses come from a Munich-based manufacturer is good news for Germany as an industrial location.”
